About Member

Respected Prof. (Dr.) M. N. Patel was born on 01-06-1952. He did his B. E. Civil in 1975 with distinction from S. P. University. Prof. Patel did his Post Graduation (M. E. in Civil Structures) from Gujarat University in 1990 and Ph. D. from D. D. University. 

Prof. Patel started his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer in Civil  Engineering at Sir B. P. T. I., Bhavnagar. After joining the noble teaching profession, He served this profession in different capacities as Lecturer, Assistant  Professor, Professor and Principal at Government Engineering College, Modasa and the Principal of L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, for 10 years.

 He has two books, ‘Mechanics of Solid’ and ‘Engineering Mechanics’  for B. E. and A.M.I.E. students. He participated in more than 40 long term and short term training programs. He has guided numerous candidates for their Master's Thesis and has conducted many Seminars/workshops & Training Programs in the state. He has to his credit many publications in various National and International Journals. Prof. Patel was a Dean of the Faculty of Technology, including Engineering at Gujarat  University, from 2005 to 2009.

He has been appointed as a member of the AIU(Association of Indian universities) Governing Council. He was also selected as a Governing body member in the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) and Appointed as a Member of the Academic Governing Body of Autonomous Institute St. Xaviers  Science College by the Government of Gujarat. Selected as a member of the Staff Affairs Committee of  AIU (Association of Indian universities). He was the nominated member of AICTE, Central Regional Committee, Bhopal, from  2004 to 2009 and again from 2014.  Looking at his efficiency and capacity to work continuously, He was entrusted with the overall responsibility of Gujarat Technological University as its Vice-Chancellor from March 2009 to June 2010. During this tenure, GTU received the prestigious award ‘É-India -2009’ for ICT enabled University from the Ministry of  Communications & Information Technology in August 2009 and bagged the  ‘Manthan Award 2009’ from Digital Empowerment Foundation in May 2009.  From 21/10/2011 to 13/11/2011 and 07-06-2013 to 17-07-2013, he was officiating as V. C. of G.T.U. He was a Director of the Board of Studies for Structural Engg. in G.T.U. He was also a  member of the Promotion dept. The committee, Purchase dept. Committees and State level committees for student transfer. He was also a member of the MSME Award Committee of the Industry Dept. He is also a member of BOG/Board in many State technical institutes. He is a life member of many professional bodies like ISTE, GICEA, IGS, AMIE, FIE  (India), GSA(Gujarat Science Academy) etc, showing his concern for Technical  Education & Academic Excellence. He has established an earthquake engineering laboratory and several programs with GSDMA. He is an invited member of the Fee Regulatory Committee. He is a member of B.O.G. of Sardar Vallabhbhai National  Institute of Technology, Surat. For three years, govt. Gujarat has appointed him as a Gujarat Professional Civil Engineers Council member from 21-11-2010. In addition to his duty as principal, since May 2006, he has been assigned the responsibility of Member Secretary of ACPC, Gujarat State, where admission of B.E.,  B.Pharm. & Diploma Pharmacy, Diploma to Degree Engineering & Pharmacy,  Architecture, H.T.M., M. E. & M. Pharm. is conducted. Due to his efforts, the admission process became online, time-saving & free from harassment.  After a long, eventful and successful career, the pinnacle of his career arrived with the Government appointing him as the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat  University in February 2014, one of the largest and oldest Universities in the  State. He has been awarded a Certificate of honour ISTE-2010 and also awarded the honorary Fellowship in 2014 by the Indian Society for Technical Education in recognition of the commendable services rendered for the growth and development of ISTE and the invaluable leadership provided towards the development and promotion of Technical Education in Gujarat.
