Delhi University UG admission process: Know about UG application process, seat allotment & more

New Delhi: Delhi University has approved a new process for admission to its undergraduate programs based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores. As per the process, a central portal will be designed for admission to all colleges, and admission will be done as per the rules stated in the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS), according to the news agency PTI report. Delhi University has also issued a guideline that states that admission through the CSAS will be conducted in three phases.

Where to apply for programs in colleges affiliated with DU?

Admission to DU colleges and programs will be through a common portal called the ‘Common Seat Allocation System’ (CSAS-2022). The application form will be available on this portal.

Steps to Admission in 2022

According to the guidelines issued by Delhi University, admission through the CSAS will be conducted in three phases, namely submission of the CSAS 2022 application form, selection of programs and filling of preferences, and seat allocation and admission. Seats will be allocated based on a merit list.

  • The first phase will entail applying through the CSAS-2022 application form available on the common portal. Students must make a one-time (non-refundable) payment at the application stage. Students applying under the Extracurricular Activities (ECA) or Sports supernumerary quota will have to pay a little more.
  • The second phase of the admission process will start after the declaration of CUET(UG) 2022 results. A candidate will have to select programs in which they want to take admission. They will have to confirm the program-specific CUET (UG) merit score for all the selected programs, the report stated.
  • In the third phase, seats will be allocated through a merit list. If two or more candidates have the same CUET merit score, the candidate with a higher percentage of aggregate marks (for the best three subjects of Class 12) will be given preference. If the score is still tied, the older candidate will be given preference. The entire process will take place through a centralized CSAS portal. For admission through the sports quota, 50% weightage will be given to the CUET score and the rest to a performance-based test, the report said. A person who wishes to withdraw their admission would be charged ₹1,000, officials said.

What happens after a seat gets allotted to a candidate?

Once seats have been allocated to candidates, they must “accept” them within a specific time. The provision for acceptance will only be valid to the round in which they have been offered a seat.

Once the candidate has accepted the provisional allocation, the university will check the applicant’s eligibility and verify documents. During this process, the college may raise a query to the candidate for further clarification.

The colleges will either “approve” or “reject” the provisionally allocated seat of a candidate. Once the approval is granted, the applicant must pay a fee to confirm admission.

The provisional allotment of seats in a particular round can be canceled if the student:

  • Hasn’t “accepted” the allotment within the deadline
  • Failed to pay the admission fee on time
  • Failed to reply to a query raised by the college
  • Has provided invalid or fraudulent documents
  • Does not meet the minimum eligibility criteria announced by DU

Will candidates who didn’t apply for the first phase get a second chance after the allotment of seats has begun?

DU has introduced the option of “mid-entry” before the announcement of every admission round. Those who didn’t apply on the common admission portal can exercise this option against a mid-entry fee of Rs 1,000. However, these candidates will only be considered for seat allotment after all those who applied before them and scored more than them. A mid-entry candidate cannot challenge admission granted to someone who had applied on the common portal on time.

How can one withdraw admission?

An applicant can do so by selecting the “withdraw” option on the common admission portal and paying a fee of Rs 1,000. However, remember that once you have canceled your admission by exercising the “withdraw” option, you will not be allowed to participate in any further rounds of admission/allotment.

When two or more applicants get the same CUET score and have also chosen the same program and college combination, what will DU do?

In such an event, the university will use the following (in descending order) criteria as tie-breaker:

  • The candidate who has scored more in the best three subjects of the Class 12 Board exam will be given preference.
  • The candidate who has scored more in the best four subjects of the Class 12 Board exam will be given preference.
  • The candidate who has scored more in the best five subjects of the Class 12 Board exam will be given preference.
  • If all of the above fails, then the older candidate, as per the date of birth mentioned on the Class 10 certificate, will be given preference
