The University Grants Commission (UGC) has alerted disciplinary action against Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for failing to concede the existing guidelines for granting students degrees. The move comes against several complaints and grievances from pupils registered in various programmes regarding the excessive delay of higher education establishments granting degrees.
It is pertinent to note that the hold in the issuance of degree, mark sheet and other credentials drive multiple problems for students seeking higher education and employment.

In its latest statement, UGC has remarked, "Gaining a Degree in time after successfully finishing a programme is a student's inviolable privilege."
Under the UGC Regulations, 2008, regulation 4.4 mandates: "The Degree commendation date must be within 180 days from the day the students qualifies and become eligible for the certifications."
The UGC has similarly asked HEIs to comply with UGC regulations and award the degree to all qualified candidates within the suggested timeline. The Higher Education Institutes have also been bid to issue students' provisional degrees and final year transcripts.
"The Commission will take punitive actions as per the Regulation 9 of UGC (Grievance Redressal) Regulation 2012, against the universities failing to comply with the UGC regulations on the award of degree," the UGC notice read.
