Leh Schools Closed Two Days Amid Violent Protests

Leh witness tense situation after violent protest broke out, forcing authority to impose strict curfew measure and order closure of all schools, colleges and anganwadi center for two days. The district administration taken this precaution step to ensure safety of students and staffs amid the unrest.

The protest, lead by Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), is revolve around demands like statehood for Ladakh, inclusion under Sixth Schedule of Constitution, creating of a Public Service Commission, and separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil. The situation turn violent earlier this week, causing four death and more than 90 injury.

Security has tighten, with over 50 protester already detain and heavy deployment made to maintain order. Ministry of Home Affairs has send a high-level delegation to talk with local leader and administration. A important meeting of High Powered Committee scheduled on October 6 in Delhi to discuss the long pending demand.

With curfew still in place and institutions remain close, daily life in Leh come to almost standstill, showing the deep-rooted tension between people aspiration and administration response.
