PhD not mandatory for Assistant Professor posts - UGC Chairman

University Grants Commission, UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar on Friday
said PhD is not mandatory for Assistant professor jobs! Inaugurating the UGC-HRDC
building at Osmania University (OU) campus, UGC Chief said that the UGC
NET qualified candidates can apply for the Assitant Professor recruitment in
universities and colleges.
UGC shared the update via the official Twitter handle.
As the latest update comes into effect, Candidates will not be required to pursue
Ph.D. for Assitant professor jobs. UGC NET will act as the eligibility criteria. An
official notice in this regard is not released as of now, candidates are advised to
keep checking the UGCas website or the official social media handles for the
latest updates.
As of now, a Ph.D. is required for recruitment as a regular professor or
associate professor.
The new criteria for Assitant professor recruitment will be relieving for
thousands of applicants. UGC is expected to share a detailed set of
information regarding the same.
Candidates having a postgraduate degree and UGC NET qualification will
be able to apply for the Assitant Professor jobs across the Colleges and
universities in the country. Further details will be made available once the
official notice is out.

The UGC Chairman further informed in his address at Osmania University that a
one nation-one data portal will be developed and the UGC guidelines will be
uploaded on it.
