Schools Brace for CBSE Practical/Internal Assessment Roll-Out
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released fresh instructions for schools to conduct practical exams, projects and internal assessments for Classes 10 and 12 ahead of the 2026 board cycle. Scheduled from January 1 to February 14, 2026, these assessments are a critical component of the evaluation process.
In its circular, CBSE stressed that many schools have previously made errors while uploading marks for practicals, projects or internal assessments. To avoid such discrepancies, the board attached a detailed annexure listing subject codes, names, maximum marks for theory/practical/project/internal assessment, whether an external examiner is required, and the type of answer‐book to be used.
For students, this guidance brings clarity: you now know upfront how your evaluation trail will flow and what components contribute to your final score. For schools, the circular underlines the importance of strict compliance; the board has emphasised that no subsequent requests for correction will be entertained citing “various excuses”.
With a standardised timeframe (January 1 – February 14) and clear mention of marks distribution, the move also reduces last-minute confusion and helps teachers and students plan their schedules better. Whether it’s a hands-on biology practical, a physics lab session or an internal assessment in fine arts, the structure is now more transparent.
In essence, CBSE’s guidelines pave the way for a smoother and more reliable board-exam preparation phase, giving students the confidence that all components of their assessment are being managed with clarity and fairness.
