The University Grant Commission (UGC) has said that CUET-UG and CUET-PG scores will be valid for both admission sessions in the biannual admission scheme. The Commission further said that apart from undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, PhD scholars can also be admitted by higher education institutions (HEIs) twice a year.
The UGC decision to extend biannual admissions in offline mode, made on May 15, comes in the wake of positive response from the students. The Commission has said that the biannual admissions will make it possible for HEIs to better strategise their resource distribution.
As to whether the entrance tests would also be conducted twice for admission to the two sessions, M Jagadesh Kumar, chairperson, UGC told ToI that there is no need for multiple entrance tests. The CUET-UG or PG test scores will be valid for the entire year and students can seek admissions in the July-August as well as in the January-February admission cycle on the basis of their scores.
Earlier, aligning with global practices, the UGC amended its regulations to allow biannual admissions in HEIs in regular mode from 2024-25 academic session. In 2023, the Commission permitted biannual admissions under open and distance learning (ODL) and online modes in January and July during an academic year.
