Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), declared that more than two crore students nationwide had enrolled for the commission's Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The chairman was speaking today (October 26) at the Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda, Gujarat, to the vice-chancellors of the western zone.

“In the last couple of years, UGC has introduced several reforms. Today, more than two crore students have registered on the ABC platform but it is not enough as it is important that all the students are registered on the platform and you upload all the credentials and credits certificates of the students on the ABC platform,” Kumar said addressing the vice-chancellors.

During his speech at the conference, the UGC chairman also discussed the progress made in implementing the UGC's reforms.

One of the National Education Policy 2020's (NEP 2020) provisions was ABC. Within a set timeframe, ABC will permit students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programmes to withdraw from and re-enter the course. Additionally, it aims to enable all students to register an academic bank account with ABC so they can transfer credits towards any kind of certificate, diploma, or degree.
