75% Attendance Now Mandatory in CBSE Board Exams

Now, students must have at least 75% attendance to appear in the CBSE Board Exams for Classes 10 and 12. CBSE has issued strict instructions to all schools to ensure full compliance with this rule. The decision was taken after it was found that some schools were not maintaining attendance records even after students had filled out their exam forms.

School Affiliation May Be Cancelled
CBSE has stated that schools must regularly update students’ attendance, and if any discrepancy is found during inspections, the school's affiliation may be cancelled. Such students may also be barred from appearing in the exams.

Who Can Get Exemption?
CBSE Controller of Examinations, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, said that students with less than 75% attendance will not be allowed to appear in the exams. However, if a student has a valid reason, such as a medical emergency or participation in a major sports tournament, they may be granted up to 25% relaxation.

Documents Will Be Required
To apply for exemption, the student must submit all necessary documents to the school and the board on time. The exemption will be granted only if the school validates and approves the reason.

Parents Must Be Notified
CBSE has also directed schools to inform parents via notice, email, or message if a student is consistently absent from school.

Why This Decision Was Taken
Education experts believe this move will help instill discipline among students and encourage regular attendance. It will also help curb the practice of dummy admissions in certain schools.
