The All India Council for Technical Education said in a letter to all Vice-Chancellors and heads of technical institutions, “Institutions who are interested and eligible to start these courses shall be permitted subject to satisfying the conditions laid down in the Approval Process Handbook (APH) 2022-2023 for starting a new course. The model curriculum for the two courses shall be published soon.”
Last year, the Centre approved a Rs 76,000-crore scheme to boost semiconductor and display manufacturing in the country. The scheme has a vision for a semiconductor ecosystem - from design to manufacturing to assembly and packaging. India has been a leader in semiconductor R&D; the latest scheme sets the roadmap for India to be a semiconductor powerhouse like South Korea and Taiwan.
On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman invited representatives of the semiconductor industry in the US to make greater investments in India. According to a tweet by the Finance Ministry, the industry leaders said they are trying to reduce overreliance on supply chains in certain jurisdictions, and the next decade would belong to India.

What is IC in manufacturing?
A semiconductor chip is an electric circuit with many components such as transistors and wiring formed on a semiconductor wafer. An electronic device comprising numerous of these components is called an “integrated circuit (IC)”.

What is VLSI?
Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an integrated circuit (IC) by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI began in the 1970s when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed.
