The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has released a new academic calendar for the academic year 2024-25 in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling. On September 23, the Supreme Court gave AICTE permission to prolong technical colleges’ entrance dates. According to the amended timetable, the deadline for admission to first-year technical courses is now October 23, 2024.
This deadline also applies to lateral entry admissions into second-year courses. Furthermore, the technical education body has moved the start date of first-year classes to October 23, 2024.
The new timetable is accessible on the AICTE’s official website. However, the extended deadlines do not apply to standalone institutions that provide Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) programs, which must follow their original timeframes.
The AICTE has also repeated its position on unapproved technical education establishments. Institutions that operate without necessary Council approval or in unapproved locations will be labeled as “unapproved” and may be closed or subject to penalties. Any institution seeking permission must adhere to the AICTE’s stipulated processes, and students enrolled prior to approval must be readmitted under the new rules.
Institutions that offer unlicensed technical courses may suffer serious penalties, including revocation of permission and possible legal action. The Council has issued a warning against holding unauthorized courses on the same premises as permitted ones, and will take civil and criminal action if required.
For further information on the amended schedule and compliance procedures, institutions and students should visit the AICTE’s official website.
