The JET Programme is an opportunity for young college graduates to assist with international exchange and foreign language education throughout Japan as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs). Participants employed as ALTs are placed in schools or local boards of education. ALTs assist Japanese teachers with English lessons and are thus involved in the preparation of teaching materials and in extracurricular activities such as English clubs.

In Japan, participants are placed in local government agencies and educational institutions.
