22 districts in Bihar now offered enhanced NEET PG and DNB seats for aspiring specialist doctors.
In a significant step to enhance healthcare education in the state, Bihar has added 204 postgraduate (PG) medical training seats across 22 districts. The expansion includes allocations for both the NEET PG programme and the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) scheme with 12 fresh DNB seats recently approved for facilities in places such as Madhepura.
Key districts like Darbhanga, Siwan and Saran have gained new seats in specialties including psychiatry, obstetrics & gynaecology (OBG), general medicine and anaesthesia. Notably, the state currently has more than 3,000 MBBS seats, and this PG expansion aims to ensure more of those graduates can continue specialised training within Bihar rather than relocating.
The long-term vision shared by the Bihar Health Department is to have PG training available in all 35 district hospitals, with a policy that reserves half the seats for graduates of medical colleges within the state.
For aspiring doctors and the broader healthcare ecosystem in Bihar, this is a welcome development: more specialist doctors trained locally means better healthcare access across urban and rural districts. Simultaneously, it highlights the importance of infrastructure, quality teaching, and accreditation processes (like approval from the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences) to make this expansion meaningful.
