CCSU Petrol Bomb Scare Sparks

A shocking incident at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, has thrown the campus into turmoil after a video emerged showing students allegedly preparing and igniting a petrol bomb inside a hostel. The disturbing visuals, which quickly spread on social media, have led to disciplinary action, police intervention, and widespread student outrage over campus security negligence.

According to reports, the CCSU administration filed an FIR at the Medical Police Station against unidentified students involved in making the bomb. The university wasted no time in taking action suspending eight students for one month and terminating the enrollment of five others. The terminated students were also stripped of their rs 2,000 security deposits.

However, instead of easing tensions, these measures have fuelled anger among students, who are questioning how such an incident could occur within a monitored hostel premises. “What were the security guards doing?” student representatives demanded, pointing out that the staff responsible for surveillance were either negligent or complicit.

The controversy deepened when police allegedly entered the hostel and detained a BTech student, Sumit Kumar, without the knowledge or approval of the chief proctor. This move drew further criticism, with student leaders calling it an unlawful and intimidating action. After widespread backlash and exposure of the hostel’s entry exit register on social media, Sumit was released on bail after being fined for a breach of peace.

While the administration maintains that the swift crackdown was necessary to restore order, student groups allege selective punishment and cover-ups. They claim that several students not involved in the incident are being harassed and threatened by authorities to suppress dissent.

Campus activists have now demanded a fair investigation not only into the students’ actions but also into the negligence of the security personnel and wardens. The university, meanwhile, faces the tough task of rebuilding trust amid allegations of bias and mismanagement.

For now, the CCSU petrol bomb episode stands as a grim reminder of how fragile campus safety and student rights can be especially when accountability is questioned on both sides.
