After years of delay Chandigarh boosts 20 teachers to principal posts to uplift education.
In a significant move after nearly five years, the Chandigarh Union Territory (UT) Education Department has finally elevated 20 government teachers to roles as school principals. Top leadership in the UT, including the Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, credited this reform to steadfast commitment from the highest levels.
Inside sources revealed that some educators who had earned this promotion were forced into retirement without benefiting from it a reality that could not be reversed once they left service. The UT Chief Secretary, Rajeev Verma, emphasized that supporting teachers is foundational to improving the quality of education for students.
Administrators noted that institutional inertia and procedural delays had long stalled this promotion cycle. The latest decision, though overdue, is expected to invigorate school leadership and help uplift educational standards across the UT.
Critics argue the delay created demoralization among teachers and disrupted long-term planning. Yet in official statements, this step is being framed as a corrective measure to restore fairness and motivation within the system. With these promotions now finalized, the education department aims to ensure that future cycles proceed more smoothly and responsively.
The move also sends a message: that institutional logjams and delayed recognition should not become permanent roadblocks in public education systems. For many teachers, this is not just a promotion it is overdue justice.
