Puja Khedkar, a former IAS trainee who has been charged with cheating and unlawfully obtaining privileges under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quotas in order to pass the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, had her anticipatory release request denied by the Delhi High Court on Monday.
Khedkar had already appealed a trial court’s decision to deny her anticipatory release in the Delhi High Court.
She was given temporary protection in August. But after examining the claims and supporting documentation, the High Court determined that there were good reasons to reject her plea.
The court noted that Khedkar’s actions appeared to have been driven by “a motive to reap the benefits of schemes meant for disadvantaged groups in society.”
The court further observed that “steps taken by the petitioner seem to be part of a larger conspiracy to manipulate the system,” and emphasised the need for custodial interrogation to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
