Delhi University is developing bridging courses to help students enrolled in the Choice-Based Credit system transfer into the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), according to University Grants Commission (UGC) recommendations announced earlier this month.

On March 1, the UGC issued a notification that reiterated the provision in the 'Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes' for students' benefit. Students who have previously enrolled and are studying UG programmes under the Choice-Based Credit System are eligible to pursue a 4-year undergraduate degree, and the institution may provide bridge courses (including online courses) to facilitate their transfer to the 4-year UG programme."

Speaking to The Indian Express, Professor K Ratnabali, Dean, of Academic Activities and Projects, said, “UGC has sent this notification and the university will adhere to this. We are working on mapping out the bridge courses and are figuring out a structure to implement this soon. But, nothing is concrete yet.” Another official at the varsity also stated that mapping out the bridge courses that could be taught, allotment of faculty, etc is a time-consuming process, adding DU will act on it and implement the UGC guideline as soon as possible.

Earlier, UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar had told The Indian Express that the changes were in step with the National Education Policy, 2020.

Under the multiple entry and exit options of FYUP, students can also opt-out after two semesters, with a certificate.
