The matter was raised in the April 15 Academic Council meeting over disciplinary action issues.
A group of teachers from the School of Open Learning (SOL), University of Delhi, has written to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh seeking urgent action over alleged harassment and administrative pressure within the institution.
In their letter, the teachers accused Prof. Payal Mago, Director of Campus of Open Learning and Chairperson of SOL’s Governing Body, of creating what they described as a strict and punitive work atmosphere.
According to the complaint, the probation period of four faculty members was extended without proper reason and later they were issued show-cause notices. The teachers named in the matter are Dr. Saripalli V. Ravikiran, Dr. Ravinder Pratap Singh, Dr. Monika Jaiswal and Dr. Jahidul Deewan.
The matter was also discussed during the Academic Council meeting held on April 15. In the letter, teachers claimed that only selected parts of the Self Learning Material were presented during the meeting to support disciplinary action, while important details were ignored.
They said some faculty members were asked to review study material in languages outside their area of expertise. Teachers also stated that those facing action were not the original writers of the study material, indicating larger administrative issues in the process of preparing and reviewing the content.
The letter also challenged claims of errors in course material related to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. According to the teachers, the syllabus already includes detailed discussion on caste and untouchability, but facts were presented in a misleading way.
Teachers further alleged that the issue was unnecessarily escalated, with even criminal proceedings being suggested. They said the current atmosphere at SOL is creating fear among staff members. Concerns were also raised over the circulation of Central Civil Services rules on an official WhatsApp group, which teachers called misleading.
The faculty members have now urged the Vice Chancellor to cancel the disciplinary actions, confirm the jobs of the affected teachers, release withheld salary increments and ensure transparency, academic freedom and accountability in the School of Open Learning.
