DUSU 2024 election results are being counted today after a High Court delay. Key positions are contested by ABVP, NSUI, AISA. Follow the latest updates on FELA
The counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections began at 8 am today at North Campus, nearly two months after polling was held. The results were postponed due to a Delhi High Court stay order addressing election-related grievances. Despite this, violations of the High Court’s directive on defacement were evident, with roads across campus strewn with posters and pamphlets.
The results for four key positions in DUSU will be declared today, with 21 candidates contesting the positions.
The elections are set to witness a fierce contest among prominent student bodies, including the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the Left-aligned coalition of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI).
Delhi Police have set up three-layer barricades at the North Campus counting center for the DUSU election, with strict rules prohibiting students from celebrating on campus premises post-results. Affidavits were taken from candidates to ensure compliance. Currently, ABVP holds a majority in DUSU, with NSUI holding the Vice-President position. Today’s contest will determine if this balance shifts.
