A Class 6 student at a Jaipur school falls from fourth floor sparking investigation.
At a revered private institution in Jaipur, a tragedy quietly unfurled on a Saturday afternoon. A 12-year-old girl in Class 6 at Neerja Modi School in the Mansarovar area was rushed to hospital after reportedly slipping or stepping over a railing on the fourth floor and falling. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Initial statements from the local police say the incident may have been a suicide, though they emphasise the investigation remains open to all possibilities. CCTV footage reportedly shows the student climbing onto the railing and then plunging down. Her parents were notified, and a post-mortem is underway.
Meanwhile, concerns have mounted around the school’s handling of the scene. Parents’ groups allege that staff cleaned the spot before investigators arrived, potentially erasing key forensic evidence. The district education officer reported that when an official team of six arrived to inspect the premises, they were denied entry and could not meet the principal or management.
Rajasthan’s School Education Minister, Madan Dilawar, expressed deep dismay and ordered a full on-site investigation. He acknowledged visible gaps in safety arrangements at the school and warned that recognition of the institution might be revoked if serious lapses were found.
In the wake of this loss, parents and community members are demanding answers: How did a young student reach that railing alone? Were there adequate safeguards in place? What emotional pressures might she have been under? This is no longer merely a question of architecture or infrastructure, but of child safety, emotional well-being, and school accountability. Until the investigation concludes, many questions hang unanswered but one stark truth remains: a life has been lost inside a place meant to be safe.
