The 1998 batch of IIT Bombay has set a record by donating ₹57 crore to their alma mater as part of their silver anniversary reunion celebrations.
The 1998 batch of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has donated 57 crore to their alma mater as part of their silver anniversary reunion celebrations, becoming the greatest donation by a single class. This amount exceeds the previous record of 41 crore set by the class of 1971 during their golden jubilee celebration.
Over 200 alumni made significant contributions, including Apoorv Saxena, managing director of private equity firm Silver Lake, Shailendra Singh, managing director of Peak XV, Anupam Banerjee, managing director of Vector Capital, Dileep George from AI Research, Google DeepMind, Mohan Lakhamraju, CEO of Great Learning, Manu Varma, Senior Vice President of Coloplast, Sundar Iyer, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, Sandeep Sharma.
IIT Bombay will commemorate Alumni Day on December 24, 2023, coinciding with the Class of 1998's silver anniversary reunion. The donation provided by the Class of 1998 surpasses the significant contribution made by the Class of 1971 during their Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
The Class of 1998 will generate a significant amount of money that will be used to support important academic initiatives and influence the direction of research at IIT Bombay. Project Evergreen, which focuses on sustainable and eco-friendly hostels; Makerspace laboratories to stimulate innovation and creativity; and Student Aid programs, including scholarships, to support the goals of future generations are among these projects.
Furthermore, the money will help IIT Bombay achieve its ambitious 2030 goal of ranking among the top 50 colleges in the world and leaving a legacy of brilliance on the worldwide stage.
