In an important meeting held at IIT Delhi on 25 August 2025, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the 56th session of the IIT Council - an event which was full of vision and determination. The council strongly supported Prime Minister Modi's mantra “Atmanirbharta se Samridha Bharat”, encouraging India’s premier technical institutes to act as drivers of self-reliance and prosperity.

Pradhan set a compelling tone: India must aim not for small steps, but for quantum leaps in progress. IITs should be nurtured not merely as places of learning but as engines of innovation, inclusive education, and real-world problem-solving. One striking reform introducing regional languages alongside English in coursework underlines this inclusive ambition.

He also urged a shift in mindset from producing job seekers to creating job generators, emphasizing the role of translational research in critical national technologies. The meeting highlighted IITs’ remarkable entrepreneurial footprint over 6,000 start-ups, 56 unicorns, and nearly 5,000 patents making them clear symbols of India’s aspiration in the Amrit Kaal.

Major government initiatives such as the Prime Minister Research Fellowship, Artificial Wisdom (AI) and major government initiatives like Research Park are already playing a strong role in bridging the gap between institutions and industries. Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar also reiterated the aspirations that IITs are developing as centres of innovation, inclusion and change, which is playing a key role in the developed India of India 2047.

Overall, this meeting gave a strong message: IITs are ready to lead India's next major jump - where research, entrepreneurship and inclusive development will be pillars of national power.
