IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi Campus Launched

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, officially opened the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi today. The first group of undergraduate students to study BTech degrees in Energy Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering was greeted by Mr. Khaled. 52 students from this initial batch were chosen by use of the newly instituted Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) for overseas candidates as well as the JEE Advanced test. The undergraduate student body is made up of foreign, Emirati, and Indian members.

Launched in February 2022 by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vision Document sets a plan for expanding the India-UAE partnership into new collaborative sectors, one of the main outcomes of which being the development of the IIT campus in the UAE.

In January 2024, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi launched its inaugural Master of Technology (MTech) program focused on Energy Transition and Sustainability. Prime Minister Modi met with members of the initial MTech cohort during his visit to Abu Dhabi in February of this year.

In addition, IIT Delhi inked a number of significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent Abu Dhabi establishments, such as Sorbonne University-Abu Dhabi, Khalifa University, Zayed University, and Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), at the opening. It is anticipated that these relationships would strengthen Abu Dhabi's academic and scientific environment and create alliances that assist cutting-edge research and local firms.
