India’s AI Push in Schools and Colleges

In a significant move towards modern education, the Ministry of Education has announced stronger steps to integrate artificial intelligence into India’s academic system. A major part of this initiative is the establishment of an AI Centre of Excellence at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The idea is to make Indian students more future ready and equip them with skills needed in the digital era.

The plan was discussed during national level meetings where education experts, technology leaders, policymakers and academicians shared their ideas. Events like the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave 2026 focused on how AI can improve classroom teaching, research, and overall governance in education. The discussions also talked about using AI in a responsible and ethical manner.

The Centre of Excellence at IIT Madras will focus on research, innovation, curriculum design and teacher training. Officials believe that AI tools can help personalize learning experiences and make education more interactive. However, they also admitted that proper training and infrastructure is required for smooth implementation.

This initiative is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. By integrating AI into mainstream education, the government hopes to strengthen India’s position in global technology leadership.

Though challenges remain, the direction seems clear. Education in India is slowly but surely stepping into a more technology driven future, even if the road ahead may take some time and adjustments.
