India’s First Constitution Museum Set to Open at OP Jindal Global University

India's first Constitution Museum will be inaugurated on November 23, 2024, at OP Jindal Global University (JGU), Sonipat. The museum is part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the adoption of the Constitution of India, which took place on November 26, 1949. It aims to deepen public understanding of the Constitution through cutting-edge installations, interactive displays, and archival resources. Naveen Jindal, JGU chancellor and member of parliament, highlights the museum's importance as a tribute to the nation's democratic ethos.

JGU has collaborated with IIT Madras to integrate advanced technologies, including AI-driven interactive experiences and 3-D installations, into the museum. Visitors can explore the contributions of Constituent Assembly members and gain insights into the Constitution's evolution through the SAMVID project, which offers guided tours and detailed exhibit information. Prof C Raj Kumar, JGU's founding vice-chancellor, emphasizes the museum's role in fostering intellectual engagement and focusing on themes and aspects showcased here.

The museum pays homage to the Constitution, representing the hopes and aspirations of a billion-plus people and the remarkable men and women who spent years drafting the Constitution.

The museum also highlights the role of higher education institutions in spreading constitutional awareness, particularly among the youth. The museum will evolve as a dynamic and living space, designed to grow and update continuously, adapting to new governance and societal dynamics.

The Constitution Museum also features The Rights and Freedoms Academy, which archives expert interviews and houses a Children's Corner with interactive tools to simplify complex constitutional concepts for young learners. Art and symbolism in the museum include sculptures and artworks symbolizing key constitutional principles like liberty, justice, and equality.

On Constitution Day, November 26, 2024, Prof Gopalkrishna Gandhi, former governor of West Bengal, will deliver the inaugural lecture titled "Giving to Ourselves – The Constitution of India." Anjchita B Nair, curator of the museum, emphasizes its innovative approach to demystifying the Constitution and making it accessible to wider audiences, instilling a sense of pride and awe for this remarkable document.
