Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has nominated Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, to manage Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU).

Following claims from Raj Niwas authorities, the announcement was made about Saxena's instruction to fire DPSRU Vice-Chancellor Ramesh Goyal in connection with an alleged faculty recruitment scandal at the university between 2017 and 2019.

It was stated that Saxena had sanctioned the removal of Professor Harvinder Popli, the registrar of the university. Additionally, he has reached out to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, urging an investigation by an external agency into the purported scam.

“The Hon’ble Chancellor, DPSRU/Lt. The Governor, Delhi, is pleased to assign the additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) to Professor Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) with immediate effect till regular Vice Chancellor of DPSRU is appointed,” reads the order issued by the Delhi government.

“No extra remuneration will be paid to Professor Mahesh Verma for this additional assignment,” it adds.

The LG, in his capacity as the chancellor of the DPSRU, has authorised the initiation of a First Information Report (FIR) against Goyal and six other officers mentioned in a report by the three-member inquiry committee, as reported by PTI.

The officials made this announcement on Saturday, citing their alleged implication in the "scam."
