New Delhi: There has been a rise in international placements at Jamia Millia Islamia this year. According to university officials, over 350 students have been placed in the first phase of the placement drive. Among their employers are five international companies as opposed to two companies that visited the varsity in the previous academic session. Nearly 30 students have received offers from international companies, said professor Rahela Farooqi, director, university placements cell.
“While five companies have already recruited from campus, two more have approached us. We are deliberating on the modalities and deciding when they can visit. Last year only two students were recruited by the two international companies that visited. This year there has been a significant jump in that aspect,” Farooqi said, while adding that the second phase of the placement drive is underway.
Officials added the varsity is hopeful that the positive response to the placement drive will also benefit students enrolled in the various MBA and postgraduate programmes launched by the varsity recently.
“Students of new courses like MBA in healthcare and hospice studies, MA design and innovation, and MA environmental science will also be available for placement. Additionally, to cater to the ever-growing needs of the data science and analytics industry, students from MSc banking and financial analytics have the requisite skillset to fill the demand-supply gap in this domain,” the varsity said.
Farooqi added, “This will be the first batch and several of them are niche courses. We are confident that the students will be able to secure placements as they have a heavy component of internships.”
