Delhi judge recuses from hearing Chaitanyanand Saraswatis bail plea in molestation case involving 17 students.
In a significant development in the Delhi molestation case involving Chaitanyanand Saraswati, the judge initially assigned to hear his bail plea has recused himself. The case, which has garnered widespread attention, will now be presented before the District Judge at Patiala House Court, with the hearing scheduled to commence shortly.
Saraswati, currently in judicial custody, faces serious allegations of molesting 17 female students at a private institute in Delhi. The accusations include secretly photographing women and staff, engaging in inappropriate online communications, and utilizing a CCTV monitoring application to spy on students. Authorities reported that Saraswati had been on the run before his arrest in Agra.
Investigations reveal a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior. Chats recovered just days before his arrest show Saraswati soliciting women, with one exchange involving him asking a woman to seduce him and sending explicit emojis. He allegedly made an online payment for the act. Furthermore, he is accused of luring women with promises of employment, such as flight attendant positions, and using these pretexts to initiate contact.
To facilitate his actions, Saraswati reportedly designed his office to resemble a luxury suite, where he gave expensive gifts, including jewelry, and requested photographs and videos of women performing yoga. Investigators also discovered that a CCTV monitoring app on his phone allowed him to track female students across the campus and hostels.
In an attempt to evade detection while on the run, Saraswati reportedly used London-based phone numbers before being traced through his IP address. Police have also identified three female aides who allegedly assisted him in his activities.
The recusal of the judge adds another layer of complexity to this high-profile case. Legal experts suggest that the new judge will need to review the extensive evidence and testimonies before making a determination on the bail plea. The outcome of this case is eagerly awaited, as it underscores the ongoing challenges in addressing sexual misconduct and ensuring justice for victims.
