A clear overview of India top MBA entrance tests and key registration timelines for 2025.
If you’re aiming for an MBA in India in 2026 and beyond, understanding the landscape of entrance exams is key. The most widely-known test is the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025, scheduled for 30 November 2025, and used by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and many other top B-schools. But CAT isn’t the only route. Let’s quickly run through the major alternatives:
1. Management Aptitude Test (MAT): Administered by All India Management Association (AIMA) since 1988 and recognised by the Government of India from 2003. Over 600 B-schools accept MAT scores. For 2025, the paper-based test (PBT) registration closes 7 Dec, with the exam on 13 Dec; the computer-based test (CBT) registration ends 15 Dec, with the exam on 21 Dec.
2. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT): Conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI for more than 75 years. Accepted by 250+ B-schools across India. Registration for XAT 2026 closes 5 Dec 2025, exam on 4 Jan 2026.
3. Common Management Admission Test (CMAT): A national-level computer-based test for AICTE-approved institutions. For 2026-27 session, it measures quantitative/DI, logical reasoning, language, general awareness and innovation & entrepreneurship.
4. Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP): Conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU) for its MBA/PGDM teams. Registrations closed 20 Nov 2025; exams on 6, 14 and 20 Dec 2025; results on 9 Jan 2026.
5. NMAT by GMAC: Administered by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC); useful for India and global B-schools. Registration closes 25 June 2026; test window begins 18 Sept 2026 and ends 30 June 2026.
Knowing which test fits your target schools, timelines and strengths can help you plan better. For instance, if you’re focused on IIMs, CAT might be non-negotiable; if you’re looking at a broader set of schools with more flexible formats, MAT or CMAT might serve you well. The key is to align your exam choice, prep timeline and target school list.
