A two-day “AI for Good Governance” workshop in Imphal upskilled over 50 senior state officials, sparking Manipur's digital momentum in public service through AI
Taking an encouraging step towards modern rule, Manipur recently organized an important two -day workshop called "AI for Good Governance". The workshop was held on August 21–22, 2025 at the State Academy of Training in Imphal. The event was organized by the Department of Information Technology (DIT) of Manipur in collaboration with the National E-Governance Division (NEGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Its purpose was to promote the understanding and use of artificial intelligence in state administration. More than 50 officers, including all deputy commissioners, actively participated on the occasion and displayed a common commitment to change public service distribution with innovation and transparency.
The workshop began with a warm welcome to IT Director Shri Nambam Deben, who established a cooperative and encouraging atmosphere. The main address of Manipur IT Secretary Mr. Thokchom Kiran Kumar highlighted the initial initiatives such as the AI-Interested Legal Case Management and the GIS-based residential mapping, which was considered to be the foundation of effective, transparent and civil-centric region.
The State E-Mission Team (SEMT) chief Shri Potsangbam Henry expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the NeGD and his department and reiterated the unwavering commitment to carry forward the AI-Interested Governance in the state.
This initiative isn’t just another bureaucratic effort it marks a milestone in Manipur’s digital journey. Through NeGD’s Capacity Building scheme, the workshop aimed to equip government officials with domain expertise, hands-on experience, and shared best practices in deploying AI ethically and effectively. It’s an encouraging sign that Manipur is laying the groundwork for a robust, inclusive AI ecosystem tailored to enhancing public services in a meaningful way.
In essence, the “AI for Good Governance” workshop was not only about familiarizing officers with AI technologies, but also about fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and citizen trust that could redefine how public administration operates in Manipur.
