National Council for Teacher Education last year considered resuming one-year B.Ed course, discontinued in 2014
The Ministry of Education on Monday clarified that there are currently no plans to restore the one-year duration of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme. The statement was made by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
He stated that, based on inputs from the National Council for Teacher Education—the statutory body responsible for setting standards for teacher education—there is no current proposal to revert the B.Ed programme to a one-year format.
Earlier, the NCTE had indicated that it was exploring the possibility of reintroducing the one-year B.Ed course, more than a decade after it was discontinued in 2014, in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020.
