Modi launches sweeping Rs 62,000 crore package for youth including monthly graduate allowance and skill labs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to unveil a massive package of youth-focused initiatives worth more than Rs 62,000 crore, which is aimed at boosting education, skill development, entrepreneurship and welfare of students across India. The launch will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
One of the most talked point is a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for five lakh graduates in Bihar, given for two years, along with free skill training. This benefit is expected to help young graduates who are struggling in the gap between education and employment, specially in a state that is also heading towards elections.
The heart of the plan is the PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skilling & Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs) scheme. Almost Rs 60,000 crore is allocated here, for upgrading 1,000 government ITIs in India under a “hub-and-spoke” structure – 200 hubs and 800 spokes. These will improve infrastructure, modern curriculum and industry linkages. Along with that, 1,200 Vocational Skill Labs will be setup across 400 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 200 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. The focus will be on 12 sectors like IT, agriculture, tourism, logistics and more.
The PM will also re-launch the Bihar Student Credit Card scheme, which provide education loans upto Rs 4 lakh for each student. Already, more than 3.2 lakh students have got benefits with disbursement crossing Rs 7,880 crore. On the same day, the new NIT Patna campus is being inaugurated. It is built for 6,500 students, with advanced features like a 5G use case lab, ISRO linked Regional Academic Centre for Space and an Innovation & Incubation Centre to help start-ups grow.
Some schemes are specially designed for Bihar, like the new version of Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana, which is the main route for giving Rs 1,000 monthly aid. Another big step is the launch of Karpoori Thakur Skill University, aimed at promoting vocational and industry based courses in the state.
Overall, this package shows a multi-way strategy building skill infrastructure (ITIs, labs), offering financial support (allowance, credit cards), and setting up strong academic hubs (NIT, incubation centres). While Bihar got special attention due to political reasons, the larger vision is to empower youth across all states of India. But the actual success will depend on proper implementation, timely release of funds and close tie-up with industries so that education can be turn into real jobs for millions of youth.
