Major changes in NEET PG 2025 counselling create fresh seats and new choices for candidates.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially announced a significant update in the Round 1 seat-matrix for NEET PG 2025 counselling a development that brings both fresh hope and fresh decisions for thousands of aspiring doctors.
Here’s what’s changed: the seat matrix now includes 239 newly approved postgraduate seats from deemed universities under the National Medical Commission (NMC), while 235 DNB (Diplomate of National Board) seats have been withdrawn. This recalibration means that candidates who had already filled choices may now revisit and revise their preferences an opportunity to enhance their chances, but also a prompt to rethink priorities.
MCC has encouraged participants of Round 1 to act quickly: review the updated matrix, amend choices if needed, or submit fresh preferences for the newly added seats. And that’s not all more MD/MS seats are expected to be added in Round 2, offering another window of opportunity.
For candidates, this means “game on.” The addition of seats in competitive clinical branches opens up options that may previously have seemed out of reach. At the same time, the withdrawal of DNB seats may shift applicant behaviour, reduce competition in certain fields, or change where students focus their strategies.
The key takeaway? Stay alert, update your strategy, and act early. Mistakes or delays may cost more now than ever, especially in a dynamic counselling scenario. As the schedule and matrix evolve, so does the path to your postgraduate medical career.
For those participating: check the MCC website, go through the new list of seats, evaluate your priorities again and lock in your preferences with confidence. The counselling landscape has changed; your approach must too.
