The National Testing Agency announced the final results of the controversial NEET-UG medical admission exam on Friday, according to officials.
The results were declared following a Supreme Court ruling, after taking into consideration the marks of a physics question, which the NTA stated had two right solutions.
“The re-revised scorecards are now live,” a senior NTA official stated.
Because of the scores provided for that specific physics question, 44 of the 67 competitors who had previously been named top scorers received full points. The number of top scorers was eventually lowered to 61, with the agency withholding grace marks provided to six candidates to compensate for lost time at a few exam centers.
The Supreme Court dismissed the pleas seeking the cancellation and retest of the contentious exam on Tuesday, dealing a serious blow to those who failed NEET-UG 2024. The court held that there was insufficient evidence to conclude that the exam was “vitiated” due to a “systemic breach” of its sanctity.
The decision was a breath of fresh air for the beleaguered NDA administration and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which had been the target of intense public outcry and demonstrations in both Parliament and the streets due to allegations of widespread irregularities including question paper leaks, fraud, and impersonation in the esteemed test that was administered on May 5.
The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 and has lodged six FIRs. The NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions.
