All medical colleges and hospitals are required by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to submit information regarding the stipends paid to senior resident doctors, postgraduate (PG) resident doctors, undergraduate medical interns and PG students enrolled in super speciality courses for the academic year 2023–2024.

NMC has asked college administrations to submit the details related to the stipend on the email ID - stipend23- 24@nmc.org.in. The official notice read, “The Supreme Court of India in the WP (Civil) No. 730/2022 and other cases vide their orders dt. 16.09.2023 and 01.04.2024 have directed NMC to submit the details of stipends paid to the Medical interns and residents and accordingly, all the Health Institutions / Medical colleges are hereby directed to submit to NMC the details of the stipend paid to their UG Interns, Post-Graduate Residents and Senior Residents or PGs in Super Specialty for the financial year 2023-24 as per Annexure 1 on E-mail ID- stipend23- 24@nmc.org.in by April 23, 2024 positively.”

Furthermore, NMC has asked all medical colleges and health institutions to upload the stipend details on the website of the medical colleges/institutions concerned from the next financial year 2024-25. “The details regarding the stipend are required to be updated every month (by the 5th of every month thereafter) as per Annexure 2 and at the end of each financial year the complete statement be submitted to NMC on E-mail ID:- stipend24-25@nmc.org.in, “ read the official NMC notice.

The NMC has taken this step after the Supreme Court passed an order related to the no-stipend issue. Last year, the SC asked the NMC to look into the allegation that 70% of medical colleges are not paying the mandatory stipend to the MBBS interns.
