The PMRC Scheme 2026 invites Indian-origin researchers abroad to apply before July 15.
The Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education has started accepting applications for the Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme 2026. The initiative aims to attract talented Indian-origin researchers, scientists, technologists and professionals working abroad to undertake advanced research projects in India.
Eligible candidates can submit their applications until July 15, 2026.
The scheme has been launched to strengthen research and innovation in India by connecting globally experienced experts with leading academic institutions and national research laboratories. Selected fellows will work on projects linked to national priorities and contribute to scientific and technological development.

Categories of Fellows
The scheme offers opportunities for researchers at different career stages:
Young Research Fellow (YRF):
For researchers with less than five years of post-PhD experience.
Senior Fellow (SF):
For candidates with five to less than ten years of post-doctoral experience.
Research Chair (RC):
For experienced researchers with at least ten years of post-PhD experience and a strong record of research leadership.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to Indian-origin researchers and professionals currently working abroad. Eligible applicants may be associated with international universities, research institutions, laboratories, industries or technology organisations.
Eligible Host Institutions
Selected fellows will be placed in leading institutions across India. These include top-ranked higher education institutions under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and major research organisations such as:

Interested candidates can apply through the official PMRC portal. Applicants need to register as a Fellow or Host Institution, complete the online application form, upload the required information and submit their proposal before the deadline.
