The Russian government offers 300 fully-funded spots for Indian students across UG PG and PhD.
The Russian government has announced an exciting opportunity for Indian students: 300 fully funded scholarships for the academic year 2026-27. These scholarships open doors to undergraduate, specialist, postgraduate (master’s) and doctoral programmes, as well as advanced training courses. The initiative covers tuition fees at most Russian universities (except a few such as Lomonosov Moscow State University and Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO)) and offers a wide range of fields medicine, engineering, humanities, agriculture, management, space science, arts and more.
For students who do not yet speak Russian, a one-year preparatory language course is provided before the main programme begins. The application process is hosted exclusively through the official portal “education-in-russia.com”, and any submissions via other routes will not be accepted. The selection happens in two stages: first, screening based on academics and documents; then university placement and visa formalities handled by Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Notably, the Indian Ministry of Education does not play a role in nominating or selecting candidates this is managed entirely by the Russian authorities.
The deadline for the first stage of applications is January 15, 2026. For Indian students looking to broaden horizons, experience international academia and pursue ambitious fields free of tuition cost this is a golden opportunity. With global competition rising and study abroad costs often steep, a fully-funded route to Russia might strike many as both bold and pragmatic.
While the benefits are clear, applicants should also carefully plan: understanding living costs, cultural adaption, Russian language demands (despite some English-taught programmes), and long-term career goals. But for those ready to step out of their comfort zone, this scholarship scheme offers a promising gateway to global education through a different route.
