SSC Reopens Self-Slot Window For JE 2025 Candidates

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has reopened the self-slot selection window for the Junior Engineer (JE) Paper 1 examination, now extending the deadline to 28 November 2025. Previously, this facility had been available only until 13 November, so the extra time offers a valuable second chance for candidates who might have missed the earlier window.

Under the new arrangement, the SSC has made it mandatory for all applicants to choose their preferred exam city (up to three choices), as well as the desired date and shift, via the official website. Those who fail to do so risk not being scheduled for the exam at all, because an admit card wouldn’t be generated without this step.

Why has this system been introduced? The self-slot selection mechanism aims to be more candidate-friendly: by letting students select the city, date and shift, the hope is a smoother experience, fewer last-minute inconveniences and better resource use at test centres. That said, the SSC clarifies that allocations will still be done on a “best-effort basis”: meaning if all seats in a chosen city are filled, a candidate may have to accept a nearby city, or a less preferred date/shift.

For candidates, the practical implications are clear: log in at the SSC portal (ssc.gov.in) and complete the three-city preference + date/shift selection as soon as possible. If you’ve already selected preferences, you can also check your allotted city now.

Given that the new deadline is fast approaching, failing to act could mean being left out of the exam. For students juggling multiple commitments, this extra chance is a relief but also a reminder to act promptly. Ultimately, the window offers both freedom of choice and a firm requirement: no selection equals no admit card.

In short: If you’re an aspirant for the JE 2025 exam, don’t delay. Log in, make your choices and ensure your spot. The clock is ticking.
