Nearly 3 lakh students have applied for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu this year.
Nearly three lakh students have registered for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu for the 2026 academic session. According to officials from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), a total of 2,95,080 candidates had completed registration as of June 3.
Officials expect the number of applications to cross three lakh before the registration deadline on June 5. The increase in registrations is being linked to growing interest in engineering courses this year.
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 process is being conducted entirely online and includes registration, fee payment, choice filling, seat allotment and confirmation.
Meanwhile, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is yet to approve the counselling schedule. However, officials indicated that counselling is likely to begin in the second week of July, allowing first-year classes to start from September 2026.
Engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu are based solely on Class 12 board examination marks, with no separate entrance test required for admission.
