In addition, the ministry unveiled the new curricular framework for school education in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and stated that textbooks will be published on its basis for the 2024 academic session.

According to the new curriculum, students in grades 11 and 12 must study two languages, one of which must be an Indian language.

To make the board exams less difficult than they are now, the examination will focus on assessing knowledge and achievement of competencies rather than memorizing.

"Board exams will be offered at least twice a year to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well," the ministry said in a statement. Students can then sit for a board test in subjects they have completed and believe they are prepared for. They will also be permitted to keep their highest score."

In order to provide students more freedom to choose their courses in classes 11 and 12, it was further stated that streams like arts, science, and commerce would not be the only options. Before taking on this role, board exam test developers and evaluators will have to complete university-certified courses. The existing practice of covering textbooks in the classroom will be avoided under the new structure, and textbook costs will be reduced.
