On August 5, 2024, the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) reached a significant milestone when it was granted the esteemed 12B designation by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Universities with the 12B designation are granted a unique privilege that enables them to get funding for academic and research purposes from the Center and its affiliated organizations.

Prof. Debabrata Das, the Director of IIIT-Bangalore, praised the accomplishment and stated that the institution's journey has reached a key milestone as a result of the prestigious accreditation, which has increased prospects for government financing for research and development.

“With this status, IIIT-Bangalore is now eligible to receive financial assistance to further advance our research endeavors, particularly in specialized and emerging fields such as translatable research. This support will further bolster the ongoing research initiatives by our faculty and students,” Prof Das said.

The IIIT Bangalore Director further pointed out that the recognition not only affirms the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and research innovation but also strengthens its capacity to contribute to the broader scientific community and address critical challenges through cutting-edge research.
