UGC Directs Universities to Appoint Ombudspersons by December 31, 2023

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed universities to appoint Ombudspersons and fulfill other UGC Regulations requirements by December 31, 2023

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed universities to establish Ombudspersons and fulfill other UGC Regulations requirements by December 31, 2023. After December 31, the UGC will publish the names of defaulting universities that fail to designate an Ombudsperson and comply with other rules.

According to the UGC's most recent notification, published on December 5, all institutions are expected to comply with the Regulations by forming the Students Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) and selecting Ombudspersons.

"However, it is understood that some universities are still failing to comply with the regulations." In his letter to the vice-chancellors of Central, State, Private, and Deemed Universities, UGC Secretary Manish R Joshi stated, "The matter is being taken seriously."

 

"Since enough opportunities have been provided to the Universities, it has been decided to publish the names of defaulting Universities on the website of UGC after December 31, 2023," the letter from the UGC said.

The notification further stated that if a defaulting institution wishes to make a representation against its name being included on the list of defaulting universities, it must do so in writing to the Secretary, UGC, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi - 110002 before December 31, 2023.
