UGC Flags 32 Fake Universities Across India Delhi Tops The List

UGC identifies 32 fake universities nationwide warns students against invalid admissions and degrees.

Delhi has the highest number of such fake institutions, with 12 out of the 32 cases identified in the national capital. This means several entities claiming to offer university level degrees in Delhi are unauthorised. Any certificate or degree issued by these bodies does not hold legal value for government jobs, higher education admissions or competitive examinations.

Apart from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh has four institutions on the list. States such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry and West Bengal have two each. Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh also have at least one institution flagged. The spread across multiple states shows that the issue is not limited to one region but is a nationwide concern.

The University Grants Commission has released an updated list of 32 fake universities operating across India without valid recognition. These institutions are not approved by the Central Government or any state government, which means they are not legally allowed to award degrees. Any certificate issued by them is considered invalid for higher studies, government jobs or competitive exams.

Delhi has the highest number of such fake universities, with 12 institutions flagged in the national capital. The issue, however, is not limited to one state. Institutions across multiple states have been identified, raising serious concerns about student awareness and verification.

The UGC has strongly advised students and parents to verify the recognition status of any university before taking admission. Many fake institutions attract students with promises of quick degrees, low fees and flexible courses. However, without proper accreditation, these degrees hold no legal standing.

This update is a serious reminder that students must check official sources before enrolling. A small step of verification can prevent years of regret and financial loss.
