UGC Increases Fellowship Amounts for Various Research Programs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has revised funding for various research programs, including Junior Research Fellowship, Senior Research Fellowship.

The Junior Research Fellowship, Senior Research Fellowship in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child, Dr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship (DSKPDF), and post-doctoral fellowship for women have all had their funding revised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to a UGC statement, only current beneficiaries would be eligible for the increased fellowship rates under the approved UGC schemes.

The Senior Research Fellowship amount has been raised to Rs 42,000 per month for the remaining duration from Rs 35,000, while the Junior Research Fellowship amount has increased from Rs 31,000 per month for two years to Rs 37,000 per month.

In the same way, the Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child has also been raised. The monthly amounts for the JRF and SRF have been raised to Rs 37,000 and Rs 42,000, respectively.

For the higher postdoctoral fellowship, the Dr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship (DSKPDF) value has been raised from Rs. 54,000 to Rs. 67,000 per month for the duration of the fellowship. The post-doctoral fellowship is now worth Rs 58,000 for the first year, Rs 61,000 for the second year, and Rs 67,000 for the third year.

According to UGC, the proportion used to calculate the housing rent allowance, if any, will depend on the fellowship amount. It further stated that the new fellowship rates will take effect on January 1, 2023.
