UGC Invites Applications for Higher Education Scholarships: Check Details Here

According to a letter from UGC universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship invites applications each year through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). However, many eligible applicants have not yet submitted their applications for renewal of their scholarship for the current year, 2023–2024.

"Students who missed to apply for renewal online on NSP will be allowed to apply for renewal of the scholarship for the subsequent year on NSP, provided they meet the eligibility requirements for renewal," said the updated criteria. The applicants can come to the Ministry with the required paperwork to find out if they qualify for the renewal. After confirming, the Ministry grants the applicants' request for the renewal in the academic year 2023-24."

The PM-USP Yojana has three component schemes, namely, (i) Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) for College and University Students; (ii) Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh; and (iii) Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme (CSIS) and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan (CGFSEL).

Eligibility of students for CSIS

i.  Students with gross parental/family income up to Rs 4.5 lakh annually.

ii. Students enrolled in professional/technical courses only from NAAC-accredited institutions or professional/technical programmes accredited by NBA or Institutions of National Importance or Central Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Those professional institutions/programmes, which do not come under the ambit of NAAC or NBA, would require approval of the respective regulatory body.

iii. Admissible only once either for undergraduate or for postgraduate degree courses. This is also admissible for integrated courses (graduate and postgraduate).

iv. Students availing any other central/state government scholarship or fee reimbursement shall not be eligible for availing benefits under CSIS Scheme.

vi. Interest subsidy under this scheme shall not be available to those students who discontinue their course midstream, or who are expelled from the institution on disciplinary or academic grounds. However, the interest subsidy would be available only if discontinuation is due to medical grounds for which necessary documentation to the satisfaction of the head of the educational institution needs to be provided.
