UGC flags three unrecognised universities in India, warning students against enrolling and earning invalid degrees.

What Happened:
The University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s higher education regulator, has issued a fresh warning for students and parents regarding three fake universities operating in different parts of the country. These institutions are functioning without legal recognition and are not authorised to award degrees. Any qualification obtained from them will be considered invalid for higher education, employment, or government recruitment.

Which Institutions Are Fake:
The three unrecognised institutions identified by the UGC include National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth in Solapur, Maharashtra; Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Tumkur, Karnataka; and the National Institute of Management Solution (NIMS) in Janakpuri, Delhi. Despite sounding legitimate, these institutions do not meet the legal requirements to operate as universities.

Why This Matters:
Universities must be recognised under the UGC Act, 1956 to legally offer degree programmes. These three institutions do not have that recognition, which means students enrolling there risk wasting valuable years of their academic journey. Degrees from such places hold no value for further studies, competitive exams, or professional careers.

Official UGC Stand:
The UGC clarified that these institutions do not fall under the approved categories mentioned in the Act and are also not authorised by statutory bodies like AICTE. As a result, any certificates, diplomas, or degrees issued by them are invalid.
