The University of Liverpool has received approval to open its Bengaluru campus under NEP 2020.
The Ministry of Education has granted approval to the University of Liverpool, UK, to establish its branch campus in Bengaluru under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The approval was handed over in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
The University of Liverpool had received a Letter of Intent in 2025 and has now completed all required academic, infrastructure and regulatory preparations. Following an assessment by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the university has been allowed to begin operations in India.
The Bengaluru campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business management, computer science, game design, finance and biomedical sciences. More courses are expected to be introduced in the coming years.
The move is seen as a major step towards internationalising India's higher education sector under NEP 2020. It is expected to strengthen academic collaboration between India and the UK, increase opportunities for students, and bring global-quality education closer to Indian learners.
Founded in 1881, the University of Liverpool is known globally for excellence in teaching, research and innovation. Its entry into India reflects the growing appeal of the country's higher education ecosystem and ongoing education reforms.
