UPSC ESE 2026 Applications Open

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2026, opening applications for 474 engineering vacancies. This annual recruitment is one of the most prestigious opportunities for engineers who want to serve the nation through central engineering services.

Eligibility for the exam requires a degree in engineering from a recognized institution. Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years of age, with age relaxations provided for reserved categories. Some specialized posts also accept M.Sc. degrees in areas such as Wireless Communication, Radio Physics, or Radio Engineering, particularly for the Indian Naval Armament Service. The selection process is competitive and happens in three stages. The preliminary exam, which is objective, acts as the screening step. Shortlisted candidates then appear for the mains exam, which is descriptive and tests technical depth. The final stage is a personality test or interview that evaluates clarity, confidence, and suitability for service. While prelims are qualifying in nature, the mains and interview marks play a vital role in determining the final merit list. Negative marking will be applied in the prelims exam.

Applications must be submitted online at upsc.gov.in by October 16, 2025, before 6:00 PM. The fee is 200 rupees, but female candidates, SC, ST, and PwBD applicants are exempt. Admit cards will be released closer to the exam and will be required at exam centres.

The UPSC ESE is more than just a competitive exam. It offers engineers a path into government service where they can contribute to infrastructure, energy, railways, defence, and other critical sectors. For many, it is considered the engineering equivalent of the civil services. With 474 vacancies available, the competition will be intense, but the rewards are equally significant in terms of career stability, growth, and impact.

For aspirants, the time to act is now. Reviewing the notification carefully, preparing a study plan, and applying before the deadline will ensure that no opportunity is missed. This exam is not just about knowledge but also about determination and vision.
