A 20 year old woman brutally targeted in a stalker-driven acid attack near campus grounds.
In the early evening near the Delhi University campus at Ashok Vihar, Delhi, a 20 year old woman quietly left her college building and began walking home. Suddenly, she found herself facing not just fear, but a full-blown assault her alleged stalker and two accomplices attacked her with acid.
According to her account, the men had been troubling her for months. On that day they cornered her, threw acid, and fled. She cried out for help, but passers-by did not intervene in time. Her face and body sustained severe burns and she was rushed to hospital.
The police say a man identified as her stalker is on the run, and two others are yet to be arrested. A case of grievous bodily harm, aggravated by weaponised acid, is being pursued, with a manhunt launched.
For the victim, the attack is far more than physical wounds. It carries the weight of dread, of everyday walking-home moments turning dangerous, of safety evaporating. Her family describes her shock and pain, and her friends are grappling with the fact that someone she knew had turned into a threat.
More broadly this incident reminds us that stalking and gender-based violence continue to seep into everyday life in our cities. Young women going about their routines can still face unimaginable horrors and the question remains whether public spaces, campuses, and enforcement are doing enough.
Authorities in Delhi have been urged to strengthen patrols near colleges, improve quick response to acid attacks (which leave long-term physical and psychological scars), and step up support systems for victims. Meanwhile the assault has ignited outrage among local residents, who demand swift justice and firm action against the perpetrators.
At its core this story is about one young woman’s nightmare, but it also forces us to ask: how safe are our campuses? How quickly will we act when stalking escalates into violence? And how many more victims will suffer until systemic change takes root?
