Nineteen year old blackmailed using AI morphed images succumbs to pressure in shocking digital crime.

A tragic chapter unfolded in Faridabad when a 19 year old college student ended his life after becoming the target of ruthless digital blackmail. Police say the student’s friend used artificial intelligence (AI) to generate explicit images and videos, purportedly of the student and his sisters, and then used them to extort him. 

According to reports, the victim’s phone was allegedly hacked about two weeks before the suicide. Then, via manipulated images and videos created by deep fake technology, the accused friend began threatening to share them publicly unless the victim complied with demands. 

The abuse of synthetic media tools in this case highlights the dangers of deep fakes content that appears real but is artificially manufactured. Experts warn that victims may feel helpless when faced with blackmail over something they never did. 

In this case, the emotional toll was apparently too much. Under intense pressure and shame, the student chose to take his life, underscoring the devastating consequences of cyber harassment and misuse of AI. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are considering charges of blackmail, abetment of suicide and misuse of digital tools. 

This tragic incident also raises broader questions about digital safety, informed consent, and the protection of young people in an age where technology enables new forms of cruelty. Educational institutions and law enforcement officials are now being urged to raise awareness and institute safeguards against such acts.
